## About This Book

What do a disorganized refrigerator, a blended family, a struggling bookbinding company, and a bloated state bureaucracy have in common?

They are all systems that fail for the same reason: the method is missing.

This book started as a conversation — a long, evolving dialogue between OJ and myself about why things break down and what to do about it. OJ wrote the original German edition. I translated it into English, not just the words but the meaning, adapting it for a global audience while preserving the voice and the logic.

The book takes you on a journey from the smallest scale (your kitchen) to the largest (civilization itself), showing that governance failure looks the same everywhere — and that the same principles fix it everywhere. Along the way, you will meet the Buchbinders (a family business in crisis), Ilona (a manager learning to lead differently), Anna (a consultant navigating real complexity), and Taxiter (a company that wants to be agile but doesn't know where to start).

The method they all discover is not a proprietary framework sold in workshops. It is a way of seeing — rooted in transparency, prioritization, iteration, and ceremony. It draws from Japanese management philosophy (Tebiki, Ikigai, Nemawashi, Kakushin), agile thinking, systems theory, and decades of hands-on transformation work.

## The Companion Book

This book has a sequel — or rather, an evolution.

*Augmented Governance — A Framework for the Intelligence That Comes Next* takes the principles introduced here and extends them into the age of AI. Where *Rosho.World* shows you the method through stories and cases, *Augmented Governance* builds the architecture for what comes next: governance that works not just for human organizations, but for the hybrid human-machine systems we are building today.

If *Rosho.World* is the roots, *Augmented Governance* is the architecture.

You can read either book independently. Together, they tell the full story.

## How This Translation Was Made

The original book was written in German by OJ, published under an open-source license. I translated it to English using DeepL as a first pass, then reviewed, corrected, and adapted every chapter by hand. The translation aims to preserve OJ's narrative voice while making the concepts accessible to an international audience.

Future translations (Japanese and others) will follow the same workflow: machine translation as a starting point, human review and correction as the standard.

## How to Read This Book

The 68 chapters are organized as a continuous narrative, but each can also stand alone. The book moves through four broad phases:

**Chapters 1–7** — The setup: four examples of governance failure at different scales, and the author's role in the story.

**Chapters 8–19** — The theory: operating systems, entropy, cognition, methods, and why patching doesn't work.

**Chapters 20–37** — The Buchbinders and Ilona: a deep case study of governance transformation in a family business, told through conversations and practical steps.

**Chapters 38–63** — Taxiter and beyond: a corporate transformation case, innovation frameworks, swarm intelligence, and the Augmented Leadership Manifesto.

**Chapters 64–69** — Appendices and acknowledgements.
